Charity Affair Africa
ABOUT US
Charity Affair was created as the main purpose of Pink Loerie Foundation and Gay World Foundation is to assist the greater Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Ally (LGBTQIA+) community, in supporting causes and charitable events, providing education and awareness programs including tourism, and creating an ethos of care within the community and beyond and raising awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying, all forms of violence and hate crimes including corrective rape.
To achieve its objectives, the organisations will mainly rely on sponsorship and donation income from the public and corporate sector.
The organisation value the use of sport, workshops, spectacle, pageantry, theatre, creativity, recreation, music, design, multi-media, and other forms of artistic expression, to create LGBTQIA+ awareness/celebration, eliminate stigma and promote pride-consciousness as a philosophy for living and being well. To be an innovative and effective agent of social and economic change, focused on improving lives and creating opportunities in the communities we serve.
Join the Winter Drive and bring warmth to those in need!
Dear fabulous friends and supporters!
With the winter season fast approaching, several LGBTQIA+ and ally groups, with the support of Mahindra South Africa, are embarking on a campaign to bring joy to underprivileged and vulnerable South Africans.
The Winter Drive, in conjunction with Pride Wealth, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, Pink Loerie Foundation NPC, Gay World Foundation NPC and Mamba.lgbt, and driven by Mahindra South Africa, kicks off on the 3rd of July 2023.
The initiative will distribute donated towels, blankets, adult diapers, non-perishable food products, previously loved and new clothing, and personal hygiene products for 280 adults and 350 children to a range of beneficiaries such as LGBTQIA+ shelters in Cape Town, soup kitchens, and children’s homes in Cape Town and Knysna.
“The work undertaken under the Winter Drive campaign is not only important to support in any way possible but also brings awareness about the LGBTQIA+ community. Let’s ensure that each of us contributes to making our society better, which further enhances tolerance and acceptance,” says Manny de Freitas MP and Shadow Minister of Tourism.
Carolyn Steyn, Founder of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, says her organisation will play its part by donating 67 blankets to the Winter Drive in the name of Nelson Mandela. “Stitch by stitch, his legacy lives on in each blanket lovingly created by our volunteer ‘KnitWits’ for Madiba with their own two hands; making every day a Mandela Day,” she explains.
The donations will be transported in a Mahindra Scorpio S11 kindly on loan from Mahindra South Africa in support of the cause.
Corporates, members of the LGBTIQIA+ community and allies are encouraged to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene products (male and female, including much-needed adult diapers), and other items from colleagues, friends, and family.
All goods will be delivered to the beneficiaries by the 14th of July 2023.
Financial contributions can also be made to Gay World Foundation NPC (a registered NPC with SARS PBO Number 9179400248) for the Winter Drive. The foundation will use these funds to purchase food and other items for the beneficiaries. A Section 18A certificate can be issued on request for any cash contributions by the corporate sector.
Financial donations to the Winter Drive can be made by either scanning the Zapper QR code below or doing an EFT to:

THE “PRIDE COLLECTION” DESIGNED BY VISUALCANDY
The use of a block style that overlays each letter to form the logo icon is aimed to convey a visually striking representation of the word “pride.” This approach adds an extra layer of symbolism to the concept. By overlapping the letters, the aim is to create a cohesive unity, emphasizing the idea of strength in togetherness and suggest the intertwining and interconnected nature of diverse identities and experiences within the broader concept of pride. The aim of the logo is evoking a sense of solidity, stability, and unwavering resolve and represent the resilience and enduring spirit of individuals and communities who have faced adversity, discrimination, or social challenges, yet have emerged with pride in their hearts and a determination to celebrate and assert their identity.

Unique secret season experiences at Grootbos
Enjoy whales, wine and wellness this winter!
Forget queuing to renew your passport, applying for visas, and costly international flights – an idyllic winter holiday exists right here, on your doorstep.
Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, is idyllically positioned for an extraordinary holiday close to home – only a 2-hour scenic drive from Cape Town. This luxury and award-winning eco-reserve – surrounded by mountains, forest, and sea – combines the best of nature to offer you an unmatched escape. As a world leader in sustainable tourism, Grootbos also continues to pioneer novel solutions to fundamental sustainability challenges.
Whale watching and the Marine Big 5
Grootbos overlooks Walker Bay, one of the world’s best whale-watching destinations. Every year from June to December it’s estimated that around 50 whales can be spotted in the bay, increasing to 200 at the peak of the season. Offering visitors, the opportunity to see these gentle giants from land, sea, or air, guests can choose from a guided walking tour along the cliffs and pathways of De Kelders, a marine biologist-led boat trip or a once-in-a-lifetime flight in a privately chartered aircraft to take in the magnificence of these creatures from the sky. Southern right whales only make up one part of South Africa’s Marine Big 5; sightings of the remaining quintet – the Cape fur seal, great white shark, bottlenose dolphin and African penguin – are also likely during your excursion.
Wine tasting
South Africa is celebrated the world over for its award-winning wines, with many of these originating from the Overberg region within which Grootbos is located. Grootbos has a prestigious wine collection, and each lodge has its own cellar, showcasing some of the region’s best varietals. Enjoy wine-and-food pairings led by knowledgeable sommeliers, guided wine tours to various estates in the Overberg region or dinner and a walkabout in one of the on-site cellars. The reserve’s collection is celebrated as the greatest wine collection in the Overberg and is also home to a rare selection of Cape Winemakers Guild wines. However, it doesn’t matter whether you’re an aficionado or merely enjoy a good glass of chardonnay, the team at Grootbos believe in offering an inclusive wine experience that is unpretentious.
Wellness and wellbeing in nature
A better location to rest and recuperate would be hard to come by. From forest bathing in the surrounding protected Milkwood forests and exploring the 3500-hectare fynbos reserve (home to more than 900 species of fynbos) to breathing in the clean and salty coastal air and enjoying an expert massage in nature, Grootbos offers a sanctuary for the weary.

The unique experiences
Apart from taking it easy in your luxury accommodation, surrounded by fynbos and the most incredible vistas, Grootbos presents guests with multiple opportunities to immerse themselves in the great outdoors. Guided nature walks and hikes are particularly special at this time of the year when the landscape explodes with pink thanks to the blossoming of the rare Erica irregularis. This particular Erica is only found between the towns of Gansbaai and Stanford, with the majority of the population on the Grootbos reserve. Only flowering between July and October each year, the blushing beauties are a highly unique attraction.
While a walk may get you up close to the natural wonders of the landscape, a 4×4 flower safari – also included in your stay – is another way to witness the magnificence of the Cape Floral Kingdom. There is also the option of a horseback fynbos experience, where you can trot through the 3500 hectare reserve at a pace that suits you, while a knowledgeable guide shares tidbits about the fauna and flora, as well as the history of the region.
Another activity that excites young and old is the ancient cave experience along the seashore, where your guide will lead you through some of the area’s earliest dwellings and share stories of a different time.
Offering a bespoke botanical experience, the Grootbos Florilegium at the on-site Hannarie Wenhold Art Gallery is a must-see. The unique collection of botanical illustrations, by both local and international artists, depicts the rare, endangered and charismatic plants found on the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and its surrounding regions.
There really is no need to leave the country this winter – head to Grootbos for award-winning luxury accommodation, experiences unlike any other, and a chance to unwind in the most picturesque surroundings.
More specialist guided experiences in a nutshell:
⮚ Take part in a Flower Safari or enjoy a horse ride through 907 recorded plant species with the rare opportunity to view the Erica irregularis
⮚ Sweeten your stay with a Hive to Home experience, where you’ll be taken out onto the reserve to harvest your own honey that is made from the rare Erica irregularis
